Driver Frequently Asked Questions

Is the truck sale program a good deal?
Absolutely. We created the truck sale as a way to give our company drivers a way to become an independent contractor. This is a great way to learn the ins and outs of the company like freight patterns, load pay, customer base, operations, safety requirements, etc. BEFORE you become an owner operator It’s also the best way to get to know your truck before you buy. Consider it a 1-year test drive!

Home time?
Most drivers are out about 3 to 4 weeks at a time depending on their home location. Drivers that live in fringe areas may stay out longer. However, first and foremost, all drivers are expected to hit mileage goals to maintain their pay and earnings. As a general guideline we try to schedule home time as 1 full day off for each week spent on the road. Additionally, while out on the road and as practical, drivers can sometimes “pass through” the house for an overnight or a quick visit. Due to the nature of Daily Express’ freight lanes and OTR operation, scheduling each individual’s home time is not an exact science and cannot be guaranteed.
All new drivers will have the chance to talk to the fleet manager one on one before being hired to get a better understanding of what kind of home time they can expect in their area.

Where do I have to go?
All new drivers must visit our home office in Carlisle, PA for orientation. We provide transportation to Carlisle.

How long is it?
3 Days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Drivers are generally ready for dispatch by Thursday afternoon. We use this time as efficiently as possible to accomplish a number of necessary tasks: DOT physical, road test, paperwork, class room information on operations, maintenance, safety, logs, permits, information, policies, programs, etc.

What’s it like?
All drivers can expect a warm welcome at Carlisle and will stay in a private hotel room for 2 nights paid by Daily Express. Most meals will be covered by Daily Express at a local steakhouse. Drivers that complete 3 days of orientation and become employed receive $250 orientation pay. The classroom training is done in a casual setting where you may ask questions and learn a lot! New drivers will have a chance to meet our CEO and talk about trucking and Daily Express.

What Else?
We will arrange DOT required drug screens and DOT physicals. We will carefully process all or the necessary paperwork to get you on board.
